FORMTAPPING: EXPLANATION

The blue area represents the metal to be tapped. The grey-red area represents the forming tap.

Cutting tap users would drill a holesize that corresponds with the yellow line, for Forming taps we drill a slightly larger hole that corresponds with the green line.

A cutting tap will produce threads by removing metal and cutting its way through.

Formtaps operate different: As the tapered forming tap touches the wall it displaces the metal in the wall.
Notice that there is a upward and a downward movement of metal. Where these meet you end up with a perfectly formed thread.

The advantage of Formtapping is that all metal is preserved resulting in a smoother and stronger thread.
